Lakey Peterson is a Californian surfer and is ranked #3 by the Association of Surfing Professionals in North America and #7 on the ASP Women’s World Ranking. In 2009, Lakey landed the first-ever aerial in NSSA women’s competition history and won the title. In 2000, when Lakey was just 5 years old, her parents, David and Sue, rounded up their youngest child and her two older siblings —Whitney, then 13, and Parker, 10 — and set out on a year-long, around-the-world adventure. It was during this trip that Lakey learned to surf. For three months, the Petersons set up shop in Manly Beach, Australia, where their littlest member instantly earned the nickname “Lakey Legend” from the locals for effortlessly catching wave after wave on her boogie board. After much success, she was featured in the 2011 surfing movie, Leave A Message, by Nike 6.0.

Hunter Doherty “Patch” Adams (born May 28, 1945, in Washington, D.C.) is an American physician, social activist, clown and author. He founded the Gesundheit! Institute in 1971. Each year he organizes a group of volunteers from around the world to travel to various countries where they dress as clowns in an effort to bring humor to orphans, patients, and other people. After graduating (1963) from Wakefield High School, Adams completed pre-med coursework at the George Washington University. He began medical school without an undergraduate degree, and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Virginia Commonwealth University (Medical College of Virginia) in 1971. In the late 1960s one of his closest friends (a man, not a woman as depicted in the Patch Adams film) was murdered. Convinced of the powerful connection between environment and wellness, he believes the health of an individual cannot be separated from the health of the family, community, and the world. While working in an adolescent clinic at MCV, in his final year of med school, he met Linda Edquist, a fellow VCU student who volunteered in the clinic. Soon after graduation, Patch, Linda, and friends founded the Gesundheit! Institute (originally known to many as the Zanies), which ran as a free community hospital for 12 years. Adams and Edquist married in 1975 and had two sons, Atomic Zagnut “Zag” Adams and Lars Zig Edquist Adams.

His book “Couplehood” sold over two million copies and reached the number one spot on The New York Times Best-seller List. The follow-up book “Babyhood” features his humorous trademark take on the adventures of being a first-time father, and also made The New York Times Best-seller List.
Reiser made his theatrical debut in 2003 in Woody Allen’s “Writer’s Block.” The evening of one-act comedies marked Mr. Allen’s first time out as a director for the stage.

In the fall of 2005, Reiser wrote, produced and starred in the feature film project, “The Thing About My Folks,” opposite Peter Falk, Olympia Dukakis and Elizabeth Perkins.

Jessica Simpson is an American singer, actress and entrepreneur who was born on July 10, 1980, in Abilene, Texas. Simpson sang on the Christian music circuit as a child, before signing on with Sony. In 1999, she released her first album, Sweet Kisses, followed by Irresistible (2001). Simpson broke through in 2003, not for her singing, but for her MTV reality show with her former husband, ex-boy band member Nick Lachey.

Simpson soon turned to acting with a leading role in Dukes of Hazzard (2005), the big screen remake of the popular television series. By the end of that same year, Simpson and Lachey filed for divorce. In 2006, she appeared opposite comedian Dane Cook in the comedy Employee of the Month and released her next album A Public Affair.

Returning to her love of country music, Simpson recorded Do You Know (2008). The album made it into the top five of Billboard’s album charts. She co-wrote many of the songs for the album, which featured a duet with Dolly Parton on the title track. In 2010, Simpson appeared on a reality show entitled Jessica Simpson: The Price of Beauty, which explored beauty treatments, fashions, and fads. She also released a holiday album, Happy Christmas that same year.
Recently, Simpson’s singing career has taken a backseat to her fashion empire. Her namesake line of clothing, accessories and shoes has become a very successful enterprise, generating roughly $750 million in sales in 2010. In 2012, Simpson returned to reality television with the designer competition Fashion Star hosted by Elle Macpherson.

Simpson and her fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed their first daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, born on May 1, 2012.

Nick Carter is taking off, both literally and figuratively, with his appropriately titled new album I’m Taking Off. The album’s title is representative of Nick’s philosophy. “I felt like this was my moment. I’m rising to the occasion and taking off,” he says with conviction. The album, according to Nick, who co-wrote every song on the record, is diverse. The first single, “Just One Kiss,” is an up-tempo hit about a struggling relationship.

The album—his second as a solo artist after his enormous successes with Backstreet Boys—includes an impressive roster of producers. The album’s producers include some notable names that reinforce its diversity: Muckala (Backstreet Boys), Toby Gad (Beyonce), Brent Kutzle (OneRepublic), Noel Zancanella (Rashaan Ahmad), Carl Falk (Gavin DeGraw), Rami (Celine Dion), Matthew Gerrard (Jesse McCartney) and MIDI Mafia (50 Cent).

An accomplished writer, producer and director, Nick created the short film “The Pendant” in 2010. He also directed the music video for “Just One Kiss.” Passionate about the health of the environment and the world’s oceans (as a water enthusiast who loves diving, waterskiing, boating and surfing), Nick continues to devote his time and celebrity toward the cause. He has worked with UNEP (the United Nations Environmental Program) and the International Coral Reef Action Network (ICRAN), and has even gone to Capitol Hill to lobby for environmental issues.

Grammy Award-winning artist Melissa Manchester was born in New York. She entered New York University and enrolled in a songwriting class taught by Paul Simon. She performed as a solo singer/pianist in the clubs of Greenwich Village, where she met Bette Midler and Barry Manilow.

As a back-up singer for Bette, Melissa fulfilled her childhood fantasy of playing Carnegie Hall. Six months later, she had a recording contract, and went on to headline at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. Melissa and Kenny Loggins co-wrote the radio classic “Whenever I Call You Friend”, and her songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Alison Krauss, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, Kathy Mattea, Peabo Bryson and Cleo Laine, among many others. Melissa was nominated for a Grammy in 1978 and 1979 and received the Grammy Award in 1982 for Best Female Vocalist.

In 1980 she became the first artist in the history of the Academy Awards to have two nominated movie themes in a given year. Melissa has combined her acting and singing talents in starring roles in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Song And Dance and Music Of The Night, and in a recurring role in the hit television series Blossom. She worked again with Bette Midler, costarring in the film For The Boys, released by 20th Century Fox.

Melissa returned to the stage when she co-starred with Kelsey Grammer, in Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece Sweeney Todd at The Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, and she most recently starred in the Chicago premiere of HATS!, a new musical that contains several songs she co-wrote with Sharon Vaughn.

She also composed for Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective, co- wrote the score for Lady And The Tramp II, and she released her sixteenth CD. Melissa Manchester recently received the Governor’s Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for her contributions to the music and recording arts, and her body of work to date as a singer/songwriter was a featured exhibit at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum.

Actor/singer Connie Stevens was born Concetta Rosalie Ann Ingolia on August 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY. Coming from a highly musical family (both her parents were jazz musicians and her brother was a drummer), the up-and-coming singer changed her last name to Stevens after her father’s stage name (Teddy Stevens).

At the age of 16, she was singing in her first group, the Three Debs. By the late ’50s, Stevens had co-launched a singing and acting career, signing with Warner Bros. and issuing her debut album, Conchetta, in 1958 and acting in several movies and TV series (Young and Dangerous, Rock-a-Bye Baby, etc.). Stevens continued on with her musical career throughout the ’60s, landing two big hit singles — a duet with actor Ed “Kookie” Burns on “Kookie Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)” and the number one 1961 hit “Sixteen Reasons”; but it was her role as Cricket Blake in the popular TV series Hawaiian Eye that made Stevens famous. It was also during the ’60s that Stevens married singer Eddie Fisher, and although the marriage would only last two years (from 1967 through 1969), Stevens and Fisher would have two daughters together, future actress Joely Fisher and future actress/singer Tricia Leigh Fisher.

Stevens stopped issuing recordings in the mid-’60s (after issuing such further albums as From Me to You, The Hank Williams Song Book, and As Cricket), and focused primarily on acting, starring in such movies as Grease 2, Back to the Beach, and Tapeheads, among countless others. In addition, Stevens has developed her own cosmetic skin care product line, Forever Spring, and in the late ’90s, she opened the Connie Stevens Garden Sanctuary Executive Day Spa in Los Angeles, CA. Stevens has also founded the Windfeather project, which awards scholarships to Native American Indians. In 1991, she was awarded the Lady of Humanities Award from the Shriners Hospital and Humanitarian of the Year by the Sons of Italy in Washington. In 1994, Stevens issued her first recording in quite a few years, Tradition: A Family at Christmas, along with both her daughters.

In March of 2003, J.R. was deployed to Iraq, and on April 5, less than a month into his deployment, he was serving as a driver of a Humvee in Karbala, when his left front tire hit a land-mine. Three other soldiers with J.R. were ejected from the burning vehicle, but Martinez was trapped inside. J.R. suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns to more than 34 percent of his body. He was eventually sent to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. J.R. spent 34 months in recovery at BAMC and underwent 33 different surgeries including skin grafts and cosmetic surgery.

During his time in recovery, a nurse asked him to speak to a burn patient, who had just seen his body for the first time and had become withdrawn. After an approximate 45-minute visit, the patient opened the curtain letting light in his room and his heart. Since then, J.R. has become a highly sought-after motivational speaker, traveling the country to spread his message of resilience and optimism.
In October 2008, J.R. stepped into another role, when he was cast as combat veteran Brot Monroe on ABC’ s Emmy® Award-winning daytime drama All My Children.

In 2011, J.R. was cast on Dancing With the Stars and partnered with Karina Smirnoff to win the coveted mirror ball trophy.

In May of 2012, J.R. and his girlfriend Diana Gonzales-Jones welcomed a baby daughter, Lauryn Annabelle.

Today, J.R. is working on a book due out October 30, 2012, and he continues to balance his speaking engagements, along with his extensive charity work. While J.R.’s experience was certainly life-changing, amazingly he claims this is actually a change for the better. He has discovered it is what is inside a person that matters most and devotes himself to showing others the true value in making the most of every situation. “I wouldn’t change anything…absolutely anything!” J.R. says. “I do believe everything happens for a reason, and I’m extremely grateful for that day because it led me into this life!”

As the Executive Director and Co-founder of Architecture for Humanity, Cameron Sinclair is not only an architect, but an author, humanitarian, and world-class visionary.

During his studies at the University of Westminster and at the Bartlett School of Architecture, Cameron developed a passion in social, cultural, and humanitarian design. His resulting postgraduate thesis focused on providing shelter to New York’s homeless through sustainable, transitional housing.
